Laws was arrested for assault in January 2022 after wounding two people on Clinton Avenue near Goodyear. In March 2022, he was arrested again for gun possession and released on bond. He pleaded guilty on March 23.
The Madison County Coroner, Dr. Tyler Berryhill, took Officer Crumby to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Huntsville for an autopsy on Wednesday. Officer Crumby worked for HPD for three years and the Tuscaloosa Police Department for eight. The perpetrator and female victim are hospitalized. Witnesses saw heavily armored trucks and officers with guns and tactical gear.
